Submitting abstracts
Registration/Deadline
- Abstracts can only be submitted digitally. If you encounter any technical problems, please contact the person listed opposite.
- The registration deadline is March 31, 2026.
- Registration of an abstract requires participation in the 38th International Congress of German Ophthalmic Surgery.
Topic/Language
- Each submission must be assigned to one of the following topics:
- Cataract
- Retina
- Refractive surgery
- Glaucoma
- Cornea
- General ophthalmic surgery
- Abstracts may be submitted and presented (free paper) in German or English.
Requirements for acceptance of abstracts
- Abstracts must be structured as follows:
a) Objective b) Method c) Results d) Conclusion - A speaker may be listed as an author no more than three times
- Abstracts submitted by pharmaceutical and medical technology companies or with company employees as speakers cannot be considered
- Only previously unpublished results should be submitted
- Authors must clarify the rights to all content (texts, tables, illustrations, etc.) and obtain the consent of all persons mentioned
- If material (e.g., illustrations or tables) from other sources is used, a written statement from the copyright holder must be submitted stating that they agree to publication under a license
The respective committee points out that abstracts that do not meet these requirements in terms of content will unfortunately have to be rejected.
Selection/evaluation
- All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a selected team of experts
- Once the review process has been completed (around mid-May 2026), you will receive an email notification informing you whether your abstract has been accepted or rejected
Disclosure of financial interests
During the abstract submission process, each author/speaker is requested to disclose any financial/economic ties in accordance with the following parameters:
Consultant (B): | Commercial payment or support in the last three years in the form of research funds or material in equipment, process or products presented. * |
Employee (E): | Financial interest in product marketing (employee of the product manufacturer)* |
Investor product (I): | Financial interest in a company or companies supplying equipment, process or presented (e.g. shareholdings, share ownership etc.).* |
Employee (M): | Financial interest in product commercialization (employee of product manufacturer)*. |
Product speaker’s (P): | Financial interest in equipment, described procedure or described product (e.g. allowance, travel expense, research funds, grants etc.)* |
None (K): | No financial interest, no commercial support in the case of the work presented. |
* Name of the company required.
Publication of abstracts
- By submitting the abstract, the author agrees that the abstract will be published in accordance with the principles of open access and that the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International CCBY 4.0 license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) will be used.
- Publication will take place via the German Medical Science publication portal (http://www.egms.de/).
- By submitting their abstract, the submitter transfers all rights of further use of any kind to the organizer free of charge. Notwithstanding this, the submitter retains the right to reuse the abstract for their own purposes.
- If the contribution has already been published in whole or in part elsewhere, the original source must be cited. If the author publishes a contribution in parallel elsewhere, this should be done with reference to the publication in GMS.
- In addition, the abstracts will be published in the DOC archive on the event homepage.
- Please note that the abstract will be published in the form in which it is submitted and no corrections can be made. If necessary, the organizer reserves the right to amend incorrect abstracts without consultation.
German Medical Science
German Medical Science (GMS) is a publication platform where researchers in the medical field can publish their quality-assured findings. GMS publishes online journals, conference proceedings, and research reports. Videos or other data can also be attached to the publications if required.
Each conference is given its own section within the portal.
The advantages of publishing with GMS:
Each individual article is prepared for online publication in accordance with high editorial standards and is assigned persistent identifiers (DOI and URN), making it citable. By publishing with GMS, articles are permanently available free of charge in accordance with the open access principle, can be found via all major search engines, and are archived for the long term.

Submitting abstracts
Presentation format (after acceptance of the abstract):
Each presentation is allocated 5 minutes (followed by 2 minutes of discussion). Please note that the speaking time must be adhered to and that presentations will be interrupted if this time is exceeded.
PC projection equipment is available in the lecture halls for the presentations.
The chairpersons will award prizes for the best free paper in each subject area at the end of the respective session!

Submitting abstracts
Presentation format (after acceptance of the abstract):
ePosters can be submitted on an ophthalmic surgery/ophthalmology topic. They must be created as PDF documents with a maximum of 5 pages in landscape format (16:9). The ePosters will be available to all participants on poster terminals throughout the DOC. There will be no official presentation.
The ePosters will be evaluated in advance by the Poster Committee and a prize will be awarded for the best ePoster.
The award ceremony for the best ePoster will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, during the „General Session“.
